Topic : Can't start MR!

I initially tried with JDK, but now I downloaded the latest SUN Java SE Runtime Environment 6u17 for Linux from java.sun.com site. Now I'm running:

java version "1.6.0_17"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode, sharing)

Sorry to hear of your troubles. It looks like you are running 32 bit Java, that's good.

Sorry about the upgrade nag, it's actually a bug, you get it even with the latest version and I should upload a fix but it somehow didn't bug me enough. Generally when it 'hangs' and there are no exception messages the only reason I can think of is that it somehow cannot make a network connection. However, hte only thing it connects to when coming up is 24hourloop.com and that seems to work because you are getting the version check message.

It's certainly not a Linux-specific issue because my main OS by now is CentOS. The message also indicates that Mozialla initializes fine so I am a bit baffled. Are you running genuine Sun Java? I have had a good deal of issues with things like OpenJDK and Blackdown or Soylatte (although I have been told people got it to work with Soylatte, I am not one of them but run it under 64bit Java with the Lobo browser.

I'd say the first thing to check is your Java (you are running 1.6, are you not?).

I could bring it up under a Ubunto VB but I am fairly certain it would work.

I'd say, let me know about your Java, make sure firewall lets it through. I'll put up a fixed version without the nag tomorrow so that would be out of the way (one of my machines I always cancel out of the Update prompt, so that won't be it). IF it still doesn't help I can look into giving you a debug version that says a few more things coming up ...

Hi.

I'm trying to run Media Reader in an Ubuntu 9.10 machine. Any time I launch the proggram I can see the upgrade dialog, but when I click on "cancel" the program freezes at this point:

maurizio@maurizio-desktop:~/Scrivania/jre1.6.0_17/bin$ ./java -jar /home/maurizio/MediaReader/mediareader.jar
/home/maurizio/MediaReader/native/linux/xulrunner
12-dic-2009 23.47.39 org.mozilla.browser.MozillaInitialization initialize
INFO: Using xul runner dir: /home/maurizio/MediaReader/native/linux/xulrunner

Only a few times i've seen the initial mask of MR, but even in that case after a little the program crashes.

What do you think?

Topic : frame fix, webbrowser don't run and IMDB problems

Yeah, I'm a native German. Kein Deutsches keyboard mehr, also Umlaute als ae un oe und so and mein Spellchecker flippt aus aber ja, Ich bin in Deutschland geboren und bin mit 28 ausgewandert. Ich hab in North Carolina un Kalifornien gelebt. Jetzt in Texas, Amerikanische Frau und Kinder und neimand hier sprich Deutsch. Est dauert immer so neh Woch before Ich wieder fluessing bin. Aber Ich schau mir schon Deutsches Fernsehen an, mit XBMC und Playon ZDF, ARD, etc.

Back to English:

Resizing: Yes, it is true that I have disabled reizing again. It turned out to be a hassle for me personally as the panels obviously start scrolling when you resize too small. I turned selfish and made them fixed size again. I don't think I will change this before Media Server. I also know that the Media Server project is dragging on much longer than I thought. The reason being that I am doing a bunch of different things at the same time (read my frontpage article on web application frameworks). So you will have to wait for that to materialize. It is already working, using GXT (GWT-Ext), looks very good but simply not complete. Bug me more and I will get done earlier, seriously. When I see that people are really witing for it (vs. me just imaginign it) I will put more emphasis on it.

Scraper: Yes, the scraper underwent some changes. One of the things it didn't do is pick the obvious. I have changed this but IMDB is a moving target. Mind you, it doesn't have an API so the code needs to have a look at a few web pages and try to pick the relevant portions from it. However, I had some email exchange with others (I would prefer these things to happen in the forum for everyone to see and agree) and there are some changes I need to make. Nothing radical but it requires a few hours that are really precious to me.

Browser: The problem is caused by 64 bit Java. I changed the Mac OSX to always to use Lobo (http://lobobrowser.org/download.jsp). However, the browser is not very good but currently the only alternative to Mozilla. I am using the Mozswing bindings and this project, like Lobo, seems dead as well. I do not have the time to cobble together 64 bit nindings (and probably lack the necessary skills). At the same time 64 bit Java is popping up everywhere. I *only* run 64 bit operating systems at this point and just refuse to run a 32 bit JDK myself. So I will add a profile option to pull up Lobo whenever necessary. Sun has promised a new component , JWebpane (google it), but they did so for nearly 2 years, demoed it this year, said it will come out before the end of the year (well, it's December now), were bought by Oracle and I don't know what the real status is. They are not forthcoming with these details. Anyhow, this is essentially what I am waiting for but Lobo will be an option until then. I might be able to get those changes done on the weekend but trust me, I am overwhelmed with open source work. SO hang tight, it is all going to happen, there will be some minor changes to plug the biggest issues (the support for thetvimdb will now use the version 2.0 API as well as XBMC uses) but I need to squeeze the hours out of it.

I have changed my main development OS to CentOS for good reasons (again read the frontpage article I am still writing, hopefully today and tomorrow you will see that I am not just diddling around).

Topic : resizing profile screen

I managed to get this app to install on an xbox running linux. The problem I am having is that when viewing profile info the box is to long for the screen and I cannot resize it to be able to save any changes. Is it possible to add this option.

The main page has this option and shrinks to a perfect screen size. I dont know if any of the other option screens have the issue for me or not.

You mean like a batch command where it starts and ends and say scan new files and your script continues?

It doesn't have such a feature, it's a GUI only. I have had one other person ever ask for such a feature and decided it wasn't worth it. That being said I might add an RPF call into MediaServer to allow you to do something like this but I am not there, yet.

Hey,

I was wondering if you could tell me how I can access MediaReader from the terminal in Ubuntu. I've download and installed .60 but can't find any documentation on comand line parameters. Idealy I'd love to be able to run this from a script.

Topic : Support for new nfo format on XBMC?

I uploaded a new version with minor changes. It also has the support for the fileinfo section of the new nfos. Personally, I am not enamored by the continued nfo generation instead of the availability of an API. Note that there is only minimal development activity on this project since I have been somewhat busy with some work for non-profits and politicos. That has somewhat subsided and I am now heavily invovled with Mediaserver, the successor to Mediareader. I am in the process of penning a piece for the front page that talks about the progress how wonderful it all is and what a pain it was to learn all these state of the art tools.

Anyhow, if there are bugs or necessary enhancements like the nfo format, please let me know. I triggered an update alert for this one (if you have the update check in your profile turned on).

Let me know how it goes.

That sounds right. I run it here on Snow Leopard and it works fine. Do you have a screen show that I could look at that demonstrates thr problem?

Topic : Media Reader on Mac

Hi, apologies if it's been resolved or covered elsewhere, but I downloaded Mediareader last night and was tying to get it going on my Mac (OSX V10.5.6) and it acts a bit strange (can't scan certain files or returns odd results, column headers drawn incorrectly in main window etc)

Can anyone verify what the correct version of Java is I should be running on my mac?

My terminal states:

"java -version

java version "1.6.0_07"

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_07-b06-153)

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 1.6.0_07-b06-57, mixed mode)"

According to the Java preferences console, under "Java applet version" this is "Java SE 6 64 bit"

and under Java application versions it states the same "Java SE 6 64 bit"

i'm assuming java is the problem here of course, but I'm not a programmer/coder and am just taking a guess after reading the mac/java threads on the board here.

Thanks

Great. Thanks for the link. Give me a couple of days and I'll write that format (maybe optional?).

My apologies for the late reply, I was gone for the weekend and missed your response.  Here is the link to the NFO formats on the XBMC wiki:

http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=Import_-_Export_Library#Video_nfo_Files

If you look at the section for Video NFOs and then Movies, you will see that the NFO spec calls for the <fileinfo> section.  In the latest builds they have begun using the studio tags to grab video information and moved it into the fileinfo section of the NFO.

Thanks,

TJ

I guess I will have to hop over and see what is new - it seems. Yes it will support whatever new format there is, even if just for my own sake ;-). I will check on the details and let you know. There are a few other changes in it already (not released) such as improved movie recognition.

Can you point me someplace where I can find details on the layout?

I'm just wondering if you have any plans to alter MediaReader to create NFO files using the new NFO format that is used by XBMC?  I know that the studio tags used previously by Aeon and other skins is now changed and moved from the /studio tag into a separate section for fileinfo.

I love this program and all of the work you have done to create a cross-platform application to meet our needs!

Subversion: Just install subversion through the package manageer (dunno what distro you use). It'll pick it up.

The 0.59 works!

Thank you, I can see all options.

I have download Netbeans, but I can't find a Plug-in for subversion.

Only for windows, but i need for linux.

I thought SL was written entirely 64 bit, but in such a manner that it works on 32 bit.

No idea about forcing it to boot like that though,.

I can say it runs a bit better and faster than leopard did, but introduces a few bugs. my scroll whell will no longer move the volume slider, and my extra mouse buttons no longer activate Spaces, even though spaces is still assigned to that button.

For the most part, aside from having to fix a few of my programs that I wrote, like iDentify, I'm glad I upgraded.

Guess I ought to upgrade and see for myself. Do you know whether there is some option to force it to boot in 32 bit mode? I remember there being such a thing as pressing the six and four keys to force a boot in 64 bit mode but sicne I have a 64 bit processor I am sure it would come up 64 bit by default.

The upgrade price is certainly reasonable. I guess Apple wants to stick it to Micro$oft ...
