Here the latest change log.

Foremost, it includes using the 24hourloop site as search engine for IMPA since there is really no legitimate and moral way of doing it otherwise. I will make the XML based search engien available to others if there is interest. It is extremely fast.

Assuming the wrost and the site is down, there are two things that willhold up Media Reader:

  1. The version check at startup. It'll time out eventually but it's a nuisance.
  2. Retrieving IMPA files will time you out constantly, slowing it to a crawl.

Therefore there are two new profile options to turn these features off. You really should not do so because

  1. You won't be notified when a new version is available.
  2. You won't get any IMPA posters.

It is really only meant as a feature if something terrible happens you will not depend on it. However, even if you turn off the 24hourloop search engine you will get all other artwork and media information, it only relates to IMPA.

If you are upgrading from a previous version, boyth 1.) and 2.) will be turned off by default. Please turn them on.

Here is the log:

0.41 beta

A few quick fixes:

  • Fixed data truncation errors when scanning for or updating movies and TV shows. This would give you a dialog box and the show/movie would not be properly added.
  • TV analysys and movie analysis now present results at end of scan.
  • TV Analysis did not show a progress bar.
  • Movie actor images were by default not scraped (profile settings). Default changed to 'yes'. You should make sure to check this option in your profile.
  • Exception in getTreeCellRendererComponent when right-clicking on movie and selecting movie art (on Fedora Core and maybe other platforms as well, not experienced on Windows)
  • IllegalArgumentException scraping TV series when no FirstAired date available.
  • SQL error MOVIEACTOR.ROLE not found when invoking movie actor dialog from main menu.
  • Duplicate 'Play buttons on movie edit dialog
  • All dialogs are now resizable (to some extent).
  • Added 24hourloop search engine support for IMPA. Can be changed in profile.
  • Version check can be turned off in profile.
  • Added a few icons.
  • Genre list popups from Tools dialog did not do anything
  • Fixed dialog positions to be relative to their parents.
  • Added a connectivity check in profile options. It will test every site that it needs to see whether a request times out. If something does not work the way it is supposed to, check this first. A nonresponsive site will lead to long scans and missing results (and possibly other errors).

I did some cursory testing under Fedora. I am always dazzled to see a Linux distro with a file manager that does not allow you to open a command window from the file manager. Tsk, tsk, tsk - even Vista does that by default ...

There still is the startup issue of two messages from the Lobo browser looking for extensions. I will fix it next time around ...
