Sorry to hear of your troubles. It looks like you are running 32 bit Java, that's good.
Sorry about the upgrade nag, it's actually a bug, you get it even with the latest version and I should upload a fix but it somehow didn't bug me enough. Generally when it 'hangs' and there are no exception messages the only reason I can think of is that it somehow cannot make a network connection. However, hte only thing it connects to when coming up is 24hourloop.com and that seems to work because you are getting the version check message.
It's certainly not a Linux-specific issue because my main OS by now is CentOS. The message also indicates that Mozialla initializes fine so I am a bit baffled. Are you running genuine Sun Java? I have had a good deal of issues with things like OpenJDK and Blackdown or Soylatte (although I have been told people got it to work with Soylatte, I am not one of them but run it under 64bit Java with the Lobo browser.
I'd say the first thing to check is your Java (you are running 1.6, are you not?).
I could bring it up under a Ubunto VB but I am fairly certain it would work.
I'd say, let me know about your Java, make sure firewall lets it through. I'll put up a fixed version without the nag tomorrow so that would be out of the way (one of my machines I always cancel out of the Update prompt, so that won't be it). IF it still doesn't help I can look into giving you a debug version that says a few more things coming up ... |
