I have looked at creating a rough database from the nfo files, sort of re-engineering the thing. It's just not at the top of the list but maybe next week, depends on what folks think they really want. After all, I wanted to also include audio.

As far as the nfos - yes, they are compatible. Last time I checked Media Companion did not report the cast correctly but that may have changed. I don't use it anymore.

Reading the nfos is pretty straightforward but the MR database has much more info than what is in the nfos. Let me see exactly how much effort that is. It might be slightly dicey for TV episodes, movies are no problem. I would hope that XBMC opens up more ways of providing data. The Aero interface is a good step in the right direction but I think it is short-lived as the XBMC developers will want to integrate those features at the core. Anyhow, I will support some of it by the end of the week..

Got it going and it looks sweet.

I am wondering if this app will read nfo and tbn files that are in a folder that no avi is present. I ask because I store my media on other devices but use this machine to create the nfo files and catalog my collection. I run upnp on xboxes on the same subnet but different gateway for security and doubt those directories have the ability to be scanned across the network.  Also are the nfo files from media companion and this app cross compatible?  I assumed they would be since both are cross compatible with xbmc but I admit  I might have assumed to much.

Thanks

Couple of things:

a.) The latest version 0.45 has some issues. I squeezed i out beforeleaving town and left a big bug in there. Please try 0.44. Ignore the nagging to upgrade when starting it (you can turn it off in the profile).

b.) To diagnose a problem it is best to invoke it from the command line. The code will generally print a stack trace which will give me almost always enough information to find out what is going on.

c.) I have already fixed the minor but pesky issue but have some time this week and packing the next drop with a bunch of neat features. Ergo no drop before the end of the week.

e.) I too started with Media Companion. It lacked some features I was looking for and thus I started coding this. I also feel strongly that the Linux platform is getting a raw deal. Of course, there are much fewer Linux users than Windows users and the only way to reasonably address the dilemma is to write cross-platform. I do not believe in .NET porting using Mono as my own attempts have always surfaced tons of problems.

Bottom line, end of week will have a new drop with stacking support, reading the actual file information (size, bitrate, aspect ratio, etc., etc.) and some Aeon support.

I am very excited about this program. I am new to working with java and I am unable to get this app working. I am sure I have java 1.6 installed as suggested by the read me. I wanted this app to give me the same abilities on a linux platform that I get from media companion on windows for use with xbmc. And from what I have read it will do everything I need it to do. I am running Ubuntu 9.04 if that helps. Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

Thanks
